Fertility Meditation Class Starts Feb 16 - Great Way to Start the New Year!
As I help women navigate through the fertility journey I am struck by how often women express feeling lost, un-centered, out of touch with their body, and with their truth. As the reiki practitioner at PDM it has been my joy to share the healing benefits of reiki with women. Often during these sessions I am asked for guidance on getting through the emotional roller coaster of the fertility journey. One of the suggestions I offer (besides getting more reiki sessions) is to integrate a mediation practice. I know how essential my daily meditation practice of five years has been to my physical and emotional well-being--getting me through the death of a loved one and an intense divorce, among other things. Often women agree that they feel meditation would help but are at a loss on how to even begin. They fear that they just aren’t good at meditating.
Hearing this, I remember how hard meditation felt to me a few years ago, before I started a consistent practice. I had no guidance--except my own inner guidance which kept telling me to do it. But as I sat and tried to get my mind to go blank, I would end up feeling more overwhelmed as the emotions I had been trying so hard to distract myself from came barreling down on me. I had a fear, like many of my clients do, that I just wasn’t good at meditating. Fortunately, I connected to teachers and other meditators who helped me through those first months of meditating as I learned different techniques to calm my mind and body. More importantly, they helped me get in touch with both compassion and curiosity for myself as I sat and observed my random, racing thoughts.
Now I try to guide and support clients in starting their meditation practice. I recognize that one of the things that helped me the most, especially in the beginning, was to meditate in a group and with a teacher. And that is part of the purpose of the weekly Reiki Meditation class: to offer a safe space to explore meditation and receive some tools on how to make it a joyful process. It is so rewarding to have clients come to class, worried that they won’t be able to mediate for a whole hour, express surprise at how quickly the hour passed. In class I offer different mediation techniques so students can find which type is the best fit for them, and I offer tools to get through those heavy and habitual thought patterns that we often carry.
Starting Thursday, February 16th, I will be leading another 5-week meditation series. This is an opportunity to commit for five weeks to starting and maintaining a mediation practice. You will connect with other women who are also trying to find ways to stay centered throughout the fertility journey. We will explore various techniques and tools and you will get the bonus of receiving reiki at the end of each class. There is absolutely no previous experience necessary. Many of us set New Year’s resolutions--or, as I prefer to call them, New Year’s intentions. This year consider giving yourself the gift of a meditation practice.
